i had first seen the preview for it when i went to go see frozen. i thought it was just one of those normal lego movies that i watch with the kids i baby sit. my brother and i were laughing hysterically at it and even after it, he leaned over and said to me, "i want to see that!" just like everyone usually does in the movies.
our newspaper, the austin american statesman writes reviews for movies quite harshly. they gave the great gatsby a c, frozen a b+-- lets just say it's super rare that the statesman gives something an a. {unless it seems to be oscar worthy} i was flipping through the entertainment section of the paper on friday and noticed the lego movie got an a-. this made me really want to go see it, but i wish my brother was home from school to go see it with me.
after i saw that awkward moment, last week, i did not want to see another movie for quite sometime. after seeing a bad movie, i am usually superstitious to go again because i am scared i am just wasting my money. however, after seeing that a- in the paper, i know that i am going.
i went with my dad to see the lego movie at 9 pm showing to our favorite movie theater in town, alamo drafthouse. there are perhaps a million reasons why i love seeing movies at alamo: the food, the fact that they are super strict about any noise in the theater, and the shorts they play in the beginning of the movies. so, at the beginning of the movie, they were showing some funny, cute clips about legos. some were informative. like, for example, a lego house in england, and even the tallest building made out of legos in brazil!
the movie started and from the very first scene, i laughed so hard. what i liked about the movie was its long list of characters, and some inside jokes you have to pick up on from other movies. like for example, they were talking about bruce wayne and batman was like, "who is that guy? he sounds awesome!"
before the movie, my mom thought i would be the oldest one there. however, there were people in there 20s and 30s and i was perhaps the youngest one there. so i highly reccomend it because it is a movie for everyone.
plus, there is a very catchy song throughout the movie called "everything is awesome" and it is awesome. i heard tegan and sara perform it. :)
i know, this is probably a lame movie review because i didn't give too much detail. but i hate to spoil movies for anyone. so if you see the preview and laugh at least once, you definitely need to see it. in fact, i really want to see it again because it was that fabulous. you might even want to check the amazing cast listing on imdb :)
