ever since i could remember, i have wanted to go to the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. i remember in second grade, we were doing a state project, and i had wanted to do it on D.C. unfortunately, that is when my teacher told me that D.C. is not a state. {did you know that virginia gave a bit of land and maryland gave a bit of land to form it? but then virginia took their land out of it? this is now alexandria, virginia.}
highlights of my trip:
almost everything
i had such a great time and i don't even know where to begin. i think the number one thing was seeing my childhood friend, andie for the first time in two and a half years.
hmm.. what else...
seeing the library of congress! in elementary school, the loving librarian, mrs. juneau, had told us every book imaginable was in the library of congress. and was there every book i could think of? well, i'm not so sure, because you have to have a pass(?) to read the books in there. however, it is fab, and i did get to see the gutenburg bible. and almost everything was marbled.
nationals park! as you know, i am a major baseball fan, and seeing this ballpark means a lot. sadly, the nationals are away in spring training in florida and i missed my chance of seeing them, but it was still pretty rockin'.
i went to georgetown cupcake, home of tlc's dc cupcakes. i didn't get to meet katherine and sophie, but omg those cupcakes were d-lish!! {and they sure hit the spot!} the line zigzagged the store, but they were very quick and it took about 10 minutes, but yeah know, worth it. :)
smithsonian, smithsonian, smithsonian, smithsonian! i went to a total of four smithsonian institutes {all free} and it is so cool to see. {american history, natural history, national zoo, and portrait gallery} if you have seen night at the museum 2: battle of the smithsonian then you would want to go to the natural history museum. just fyi ;)
all the memorials and monuments were fabulous. one place i did not get an opportunity to take pictures at was the holocaust museum. {not allowed} it was melancholy to see, but it is planned out nicely. it was nice to see all these memorials and monuments, because sophomore year, in spanish class, we did a project over most of them. :) {yes, you read that correctly, i did a monument project... in spanish class..}
embassy row! pretty cool seeing all those embassies that belong to other countries. columbia's was across from our hotel. {i was hoping to see shakira pop by, but i don't think that was very likely...}
lowlights:
definitely the bathroom at the holocaust museum. take my advice and go way before you plan on going, do not drink any water throughout the museum, and even if you have to go, {wo}man up, and go to the men's!! there are two stalls and it is very squashy in there.
DO NOT TAKE THE BIG BUS!! this is my mom's advice. they tell you that a new bus line comes every 30 minutes, and they do not. we waited at the washington hilton for perhaps... an hour and no bus showed. also, onto my next point...
the big bus dropped us off at the arlington cemetery in virginia {so technically in another state} at 5 o'clock, what time was it also? CLOSING TIME. the big bus left us at the arlington cemetery AT CLOSING TIME. so we waited perhaps 40 minutes for another big bus to come rollin' on by. {and this is when the georgetown cupcakes came in clutch, my friends.}
also, do not run around the entire district of d.c. wearing converse. {i warn you now} it is so not fun running from monument to monument with shoes with no support.
i am hoping to go to Washington, D.C. once more when i am older. :)
