33 reasons why nick swisher is "swish-licious"

as i wake up in the morning, my mom sends me a text saying, “up, up, up. oeoe.” but this morning she had said, “you better be up” and i just knew it was going to be one of those mondays. as i was curling my eyelashes, my mom came through my bathroom door. she never does that. certain things ran through my mind. am i in trouble? no... did i get into another college? no... but for some peculiar reason, she wanted to show me a youtube video.

nick swisher is one of my favorite baseball players. he formerly was on the yankees for four seasons ('09-'12) and won a world series with them in his time. he is currently on the cleveland indians, and while that may not be my team, i still cheer for swish. in fact, my whole family does. why? swisher is one of those guys who loves what he does. it's like, prior to a game, he drinks a red bull, and flies around the field. he's a guy that would most likely be class clown. and i think what makes my whole family love him is his enthusiasm-- or his adhd. at least he doesn't get distracted like dug from up! :)

now, as i was saying, my mom showed me a youtube video this morning. i was pretty shocked. my mom? youtube videos? does she even know at least five youtubers? i don't even know five youtubers?! it was a video of cleveland's stand up comedian mike polk, and who else? swish, of course! it is hilarious because it shows exactly who swish is and it's awesome! the video reminded me why i love swisher and inspired me to do this blog post. you could watch the video here! {it's pretty hilarious}

so here are the 33 reasons why nick swisher is “swish-licious”. {swish-licious (adj.): too awesome!

1. he's a little kid at heart. whether he's smiling very big or pounding on his chest like tarzan, you know this little kid loves to be happy!

2. he was on how i met your mother. and if that's not awesome, i don't know what is. plus, he rocked a mohawk in the episode.

3. he's married to actress joanna garcia. and let me tell ya, they. are. adorable.

4. they also had little baby emme jay swisher last may and it's like the perfection of the two. and he's the perfect father because he's making a fool of himself while playing baseball! “look, there's da-da,” little emme points to the screen as her dad trips over his shoelaces running to first base.

5. he attended ohio state and was named big ten's freshman of the year in 2000.

6. he lettered in three sports in high school: football, basketball, and baseball.

7. he loves hugs, high fives, and fist bumps, but he also loves flying in. photo 43BA70ED-4951-4213-BFF6-9D350CCF5728_zpsonbvc0o4.gif
i mean, i think alex {rodriguez-13} is pretty happy to walk off as he's hugging captain {2}, but as you can see, swish just flies in... out of no where?

8. he can sing! swisher proves that anyone can become an unsung hero and rocking it. his album is a kids album with all the great kids and "old school choir songs", but he does have a good voice! :)

9. he's a ball player who just wants to have a little fun.

how many ballplayers can do that in a ball game? just one. and his name is nick swisher. {plus he was safe :) }

10. he plays first base and right field, but even pitched an inning once. how "swish-licious" is that?!

11. like i mentioned before, he sings. but even better, he sings catchy pop tunes. like carly rae jepsen's call me maybe. and as awkward as it can be, it's pretty enjoyable.

12. he likes to laugh when someone falls down.

14. he cares about his fans

and fist bumps them too!

15. he has more followers on twitter than the yankees do. and to compare that at large, {the yankees have the most likes than any team on facebook and more followers than any team on twitter}

16. the swisher salute!

 photo 95E0CE48-CA51-403D-A018-9A97BE012711_zpsovtndyey.jpg basically, in a nutshell, at yankee stadium there is a group of fans in right center called the "bleacher creatures". they roll call out everyone in the starting lineup and torment other teams. {like the red sox} they also plan to #stopthewave2k14 because it is not a way to "rev up the fans"

17. every time he hits a home run, as he crosses home plate he points up to god. :)

18. he renamed a section of progressive field {where the indians play} "bro-hio". what a bro move, bro.

19. sometimes he forgets how to play the lovely game

let me start by saying RUN NICK RUN! but that's okay, he makes it look super adorbs. :)

20. writing a check to his foundation would be a huge favor to him :)

21. his father, steve swisher, also played baseball.

22. his best year hitting wise was in 2010 when he batted .288

23. he says "bro", "dude", and "man" all in the same interview and it's pretty great.

24. he's been on the oakland athletics, chicago white sox, yankees, and indians

swisher-isms i found on sports.yahoo.com!

25. "bro, it's just been so amazing, man!"

26. "i try to swag it out as much as possible."

28. he played saxophone in sixth grade

31. i think he resembles emmet from the lego movie, personally. because everything is awesome!!

32. he never refuses to sign an autograph

33. his number is 33 and that is why there is 33 things on this list!! :) {in case you were wondering}

that darn baseball post

as if i don't stress this enough... i am a baseball fanatic; and it is hard being one  in the state of texas. even worse than being a baseball fanatic, is all the hate people spit out when i tell them i love the yankees. “yankees suck”, “bandwagon fan”, “a-roid”, “bankee$”, i've heard them all before.

mostly, i hate when people think i'm one of those girls who “know” baseball. the ones that ask bottle blonde questions that make others roll their eyes. to prove my worth, i usually just say who plays where, what their number is, and maybe a fun fact. ie. mark teixeira plays first base, number 25, and he currently holds the record for most games with a home run on both sides of the plate. {also my mom's fave}

once mariano rivera announced his retirement to press last year (wait, i was at that game...), i was feeling upset. “the core four” was become the dynamic duo (again) with derek jeter and andy pettitte left.

for those who don't (bother to care) know, “the core four” are derek jeter, mariano rivera, andy pettitte, and jorge posada and have all played on the yankees together since 1995.
they are such a big deal to me because i have been growing up watching these four since i have been alive. i like to say i was named after pettitte because the day i was born, he was on the mound against another andy. buuuuut that's not true. he was on the houston astros from 2004-2006, but came back to us in 2007. :) i mentioned dynamic duo (again) and the top, because he retired in 2010, but came back in 2012. at the end of last season, he made the announcement he was retiring and pitched his last game in houston. {kinda perfect since he lives there too} (hip hip) jorge! retired in 2011. he had a rocking career, and he still rocks.
i mean, this picture, is like my fave because he is so cheery. :D {i mean who wouldn't be? it's when captain reached a milestone??!}

so, as the 2013 season came to a close, i felt as everything crumbled. no mo next year, no andy, no jorge, all those mean injuries, stupid red sox won the world series, what am i going to do now?

well good news :) we got some new {awesome} players. brian mccann {from the atlanta braves}, jacoby ellsbury {all hail mighty ex red sox turned yankee players}, carlos beltran {from the st. louis cardinals}, and mashashiro tanaka {japanese pitching ace}. and with every good news, there is bad news. :( we lost robinson cano, curtis granderson, multiple others, and of course, alex rodriguez is now serving his year long suspension from ped use. {quite funny, actually. texas rangers fans tell me “a-roid” the most and yet, wasn't he on your team too?

so spring training is starting in two days, and i cannot wait for the season to start. we have all those great people, i am going to see them in houston opening day, i got a new yankees shirt, it's going to rock, right?! absolutely! except for the news today.

as i was just getting back to school, i was on facebook and i saw a link that said “the captain has something to say”, well i laughed because i thought it was about something completely doofus-y. i clicked on it and it was a big, long status announcing that the derek jeter is going to retire at the end of the season. i started tearing up; and it felt like a heartbreak, honestly. as i sat down and reflected about it in creative writing, i feel like it is a metaphor. since they are letting go of their yankee lives, i am just about to begin mine as a sports reporter. so, i am really sad, however, i believe it is symbolic.

so here we go again!! another farewell tour! oh captain, my captain, i love you alot. :)

{and since buzzfeed puts memories together better than i can}
