Let me tell you about my buddy, Alex. I have known Alex since Kindergarten, and basically, he is the biggest Houston Astros fan you will ever meet. {People, me as to the Yanks, is he to the Astros} He knows everything, and what's even better about our baseball bond {haha whoa, that sounds super cool!} is we can just talk about anything baseball forever. It's a lot of fun! We really want to go around stadium to stadium and just go see games. So, people, my suggestion to you is to find a baseball buddy. :)
Now, people, if you know baseball {if not, you have my permission to leave this post} you know that the Astros, for the past few seasons... {sadly} weren't the best. They've been nicknamed the Lastros, they have had the worst record a few times now, and in 2005 they made their only World Series appearance and got swept by the Chicago White Sox. However, just last season, the Astros made the switch on coming to the American League from the National League and I can tell ya, things are looking much better for these guys. Not only did they say goodbye to their maroon-ish / reddish and black jerseys, but they kissed away their creepy looking mascot, Junction Jack and welcomed back their super hip 90s mascot, Orbit.
*** If Orbit isn't your favorite American League mascot, you should reevaluate your opinion, pronto. ***
Now, onto why I brought your attention to this post in the first place.
Ah... Jose Altuve. Venezuelan. Second baseman for the Houston Astros. All-Star. Hopefully MVP
At a short, short height of only 5'5", Houston Astros second baseman, Jose Altuve, should win the American League MVP of 2014. If it's someone other than him, it is obviously not well deserved because Jose Altuve's season has been phenomenal. With 221 hits*, Altuve has the most hits ever by a second baseman in almost 80 years{!!!} and leads not only the American League, but the entire MLB. He has 54 stolen bases, {I hate to say it but...} 15 more than super speedy Yankees center fielder, Jacoby Ellsbury {I love you, baby, it's okay!} to have the lead in the American League. He is batting .345! That is an incredible stat to keep up with all season long. {Sorry, Mig, guess it ain't going to you this year.} Just last week, Altuve broke former Astro legend, Craig Biggio's Astros record of 210 hits in a season. Have I mentioned? The dude is only 24 years old, meaning he could be a milestone guy by the age of 30 {don't hold me to that, everyone, I'm not good with numbers...}. And, this website, is simply the best thing on the Internet I have ever seen. So, MLB, perhaps you are reading this, choose Jose Altuve for American League MVP. He's the best.
It ain't no lie. ;)
**UPDATE** {within 20 hours of my original post...} In the mail today, I got my Altuve jersey from Alex and it looks fabulous! Guess I am officially on the Astros bandwagon for whenever the Yankees lose or something along that line. :)
